This is not a primary history of science and technology research site.
Rather, this site is for an educated school-age population and members
of the public who will be better able to make informed choices on
science and technology related public policy matters and issues that
affect them daily as healthy citizens, wise consumers and lifelong
learners.
Heartland Science includes more than 100 vignettes, selected in part on
advice from the Science and Technology Advisory Committee of The Ohio
Bicentennial Commission.
Although peers have reviewed most of the text for this site, please
bring errors to the attention of The Ohio Academy of Science with
documentation and suggestions for correcting the errors.
The principal background document for this website is
OhioScience200: A
200 Year Heritage of Discovery and Innovation by Charles E. Herdendorf, Ph.D., a Past President of The Ohio Academy of Science. In
addition to an essay on the history of science and technology in Ohio,
the online document contains an extensive county-by-county roster of
Ohio's contributions to science, engineering, technology, and education
including people, places, inventions, and discoveries:
• Natural features or events of scientific
interest
• Events or developments that have advanced science
• Ohio scientists and technologists who have left their mark on the
world
• Historic sites of scientific and technological achievements.
The Academy welcomes individuals to
submit additional vignettes for consideration.
