Construction is the building of the world in which
we live. It involves more than homes, schools, businesses, factories, and other
structures that provide shelter and places to work. Construction also includes
the assembly of infrastructure that makes modern life possible. We need roads,
sidewalks, bridges, electric power generating stations, lines to carry the
electricity to consumers, telephone switching centers, underground pipes to
carry drinking water and sewage, fiber optic cables for broadband Internet
connections, and many other facilities. Construction begins with engineering
design and its artistic compliment, architecture. It defines and defies the
physical constraints or standards under which we limit or extend our vision of
where we work, play, live and learn. Ohioans have truly paved the way to the
future with construction innovations.
